I've always been curious about Bali and when I had the opportunity to spend a few days there, I jumped at the chance. To me, it was like Boracay but magnified 1,000 times. Lots of stores, restaurants, bars, and foreigners just walking around. We also visited a number of temples and their version of rice terraces in the Northern part of Bali (which was unlike Boracay). All in all, a great trip! I would definitely go back. Here are a few quick snapshots from my trip. - Martina

Happy New Year! How did you spend your holiday break? I took a quick trip to visit family in Singapore. It was a nice change and definitely a quieter, less-polluted version of a Manila New Year's Eve. Plus, I got to hang out with my super-cute nephew! It was definitely a great way to start 2013.

A few posts ago, I mentioned that we had the chance to travel around Europe last September. Its been almost a month since the trip ended but I still find myself dreaming of the places we visited and the food we ate! Here's one of my favorite photos from the trip. My husband and I went to Versailles and took our time exploring the grounds, including Marie-Antoinette's estate, which was quite far from the Palace. While walking, we stopped to sit on a bench and take the lovely surroundings in. It was a clear, crisp October day and right in front of us was this beautiful tree. I love how the bright yellow leaves of the tree stand out among the greens, blues and whites of the other trees and the sky. I can still remember how the wind felt on my face and the cute ducks that were getting ready for a swim in the brook. This photo will have to do until my next trip to Paris. :) - Martina

We haven't been as active online these past few weeks because we've been lucky enough to be traveling! We attended a wedding in Spain and we all took the opportunity to take side trips as well. After the wedding, the whole wedding group headed to Barcelona. It was my second time to go to the charming Spanish city but it felt like my first. When I visited before (almost 10 years ago), my trip was too short for me to really appreciate the sights and what Barcelona had to offer. I had more time now and was with friends who had been there before to direct me to all the right spots. Some highlights of the trip: Sagrada Familia - Barcelona's beautiful and awesome cathedral designed by Antoni Gaudi and Park Guell - an outdoor garden complex overlooking the city, giving visitors a birds-eye view of the whole city . Here are a few pics from those amazing spots. Watch out for more posts on our European adventure! :)

Saint Germain des Pres is one of my favorite areas of Paris and this trip I again a chose a hotel in this location. The usual was unavailable so I was forced to try a new one. I was a little scared since Paris hotels are notorious for their very tiny rooms. Thankfully, although not huge, the rooms at the Hotel des Saints Peres were comfortable. The location was great. Just a short walk away from Le Bon Marche, a nearby metro stop, a Catholic church, a choice of restaurants, brasseries and cafes and not-so-expensive shops. Here's a photo of the area just as the sun was about to set.

I needed to make some personalized gift bags for the guests so I had very simple kasta bags made. I planned to screen print on them but it didn't turn out quite as I had wanted it to. Here's my first attempt with the photo emulsion.

As you can see, there's a part near the airplane which washed off which meant that the ink would go through. Since I didn't have that much time to spare on this project, I decided to use another method instead - stamping! I had a stamp made in the same design, got my mom's fade-proof and water proof ink, found a block of wood to fit into my bag and got on with the stamping. Here are the tools I used:

I was very happy with the results! The color may not be as vibrant as they would have been had I done the screen printing, but it's definitely not bad for a project that I completed in under 2 hours.

Wearing a skirt as a dress and vice versa is nothing new to creative girls who want to double their wardrobe choices. And Apparel's maxi skirt is another item to add to this list. To celebrate my mom's 59th birthday (Happy Birthday Mom!), we decided to try Wildflour Cafe + Bakery, a new restaurant in the Fort that everyone seems to be raving about. I first heard about/saw it through Instagram and was immediately intrigued by how delicious the pictures of the food looked. So I wanted to see for myself if the food was just photogenic or tasted as good as it looked. I'm happy to say we loved it! The pics here are actually just a few of the dishes we tried. The highlight was definitely the Tarte Flambe (a must-try) - a flaky crust topped with bacon, gruyere cheese and caramelized onions. It was love at first bite! The onions tasted heavenly and the bacon and cheese added just the right amount of flavor to balance the sweetness of the onions. For my main course, I ordered the soup, salad and sandwich - a grilled cheese sandwich, tomato soup and green salad set. I also liked this but found the cheese sandwich a bit overpowering. It tasted much better when I dipped the sandwich into the soup. The soup was great by the way! We also had an arugula salad topped with fried egg which was light and tasty, with the egg adding a welcome heartiness. We also ordered burgers and fries (which I didn't try), crispy potatoes (which were extra crispy and came with sour cream), and of course, dessert! We had the Frozen Affogato with Espresso Granita and Caramel Ice Cream. This was a refreshing dessert that was icy and topped with ice cream. All in all, it was a great meal! I came home stuffed and already planning my next visit. - Martina

It's never too early to prepare for emergencies. This week has taught us that typhoon Ondoy (unfortunately) may not have been a once in a lifetime event, like we all had hoped. On a trip I took last summer, I made sure that I packed clothes I could easily mix and match, dress up or dress down. I didn't want to spend too much thinking about what to wear day after day. Last Independence Day, we caught Ridley Scott's latest film Prometheus. We've never seen the Alien movies and really had no expectations for this one, in spite all the hype. Plus, we're not big sci-fans. So we entered the movie excited and with open minds. The first thing we noticed is the amazing cinematography and graphics. For those things alone, we would recommend watching this movie! Preferably in 3D. The story (involving a deep sea space adventure set in the future to meet aliens who possibly may have been our creators) and characters (scientists, robots, aliens, creatures, frozen almost-dead people and the like) are not as well-developed as we'd like. For example, the goal of the mission's financier (he spent one trillion dollars) is not clearly explained or justified. On the other hand, the vast panoramas and imaginative creatures allow the viewers to forgive these lapses and just enjoy watching the movie as a whole.

Overall, the elements work together to make for a good, if not great, movie. Things to especially watch out for: Scott's version of what an alien is and the very visual self-surgery on the main character .

Last Friday, we braved the crowds and watched the sure-to-be-blockbuster movie The Avengers. It was definitely worth it! It had action, comedy, suspense, crazy fight scenes, hot men (Robert Downey, Chris Hemsworth, etc.), and hot women (Scarlett Johanssen and Robin from HIMYM)! What more could you ask for in a summer hit movie? Here are some of the movie’s highlights (spoiler alert!):

1) The Hulk being massively stronger than anyone expected.

2) The WOW special effects, as everyone expected.

3) Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. We loved him in all the Iron Man movies, and we still love him here.

4) The exciting fight scene near the end of the movie between the aliens and the Avengers with the crazy reptile-looking spacecrafts.

5) Jeremy Renner as Hawk Eye after seeing him in the Fort a few months ago (this is a very personal highlight).

6) The Hulk vs. Loki. Hilarious!

6) Seeing all the Avengers together in one movie. Period.

We give this movie 2 thumbs way way up! Go and watch it if you haven't. We’re actually planning to watch it again!

1) Boracay

Yes, it’s not the most original choice but no one can deny the beauty of this beach. Powdery white sand, turquoise waters, swaying coconut trees – all the elements of a perfect beach are present in Boracay. Throw in bars, restaurants, water sports, and events, and it becomes more than just a beach, it becomes a must-visit destination. We’ve seen it rapidly develop over the last 10 or so years and our hope is that the government remembers that its natural beauty is still what makes it popular. Lose that and there goes Boracay.

2) El Nido, Palawan

Much has been said about the beaches in Palawan. We must say that they’re all true and then some in El Nido. The El Nido resorts are a great example of how tourism and sustainability can go hand in hand. With four islands to choose from, this pioneering resort has something for everyone – active water sports, island picnics or simply time to lounge on the beach. Breathtaking views of limestone cliffs and snorkelling in crystal clear waters have also become synonymous with this great beach destination.

3) Camiguin

This is an island-province in the Philippines still relatively unspoilt and not affected by rampant commercialization. Aside from a white sand beach, it boasts of hot and cold springs, waterfalls and a number of popular dive spots. Resorts here are also more on the rustic side which make them the perfect places to turn off your mobile phone, even just for a few days.

4) Amanpulo

If you want to feel like you’re on a deserted island yet with all the amenities of a luxurious 5-star hotel, Amanpulo is THE place to go. The amenities and the great service are what differentiate this white sand beach from others. When you visit, you’re definitely paying for the privacy and luxury this world-class resort offers. No wonder Hollywood A-listers are always rumoured to be frequent visitors.

5) Pagudpud

Often called Boracay of the north because of its powdery white sand, this beach is definitely off the beaten path. Though becoming more and more popular, especially with surfers, its distance from Manila still deters many tourists. This is a bonus for those who want a quiet vacation, without hordes of people batting for real estate on the sand. For those adventurous enough to make the trip, the natural beauty of this Northern beach will definitely make the long drive (or flight) worth it.

In this heat, the lighter the color the better! Black absorbs heat so for the rest of the summer, set aside those black tops and dresses and go for whites, lights and brights.

We loooove Pinterest! If we had our way, we would spend hours getting lost in different boards, pinning on our boards and liking pins. Summer is usually synonymous to swimming, beach trips and out of town vacations. It also means more time do other things aside from work, work, work. (Hello, long weekends.) We have a few other ideas on what else you can do on sweet summer days and weekends. Take a look at our Top 10 suggestions on how to spend a summer day.

The extra-long weekend may be over but summer is still in full swing! Weekends are meant for short trips out of town or even quick jaunts abroad. (Hong Kong anyone?) Its always a challenge to pack light but here are some tips that can help ensure you won't have to pay overweight fees or bring that second bag - 1) bring clothes made of lightweight materials so they won't take up too much bag space, 2) mixing and matching is key! I'm done! I'm done! I'm done with my Christmas shopping :)  Best part is I didn't have to send the driver through crazy Holiday traffic .... I had everything shipped directly to my friends and family.  I love online shopping :) Made everything so much easier for me this year.

Our former stylist/fashion assistant Raia is now taking accessories design at FIT. She's loving it! Last week, she went to a book signing of fashion icon, journalist and member of the International Best-Dressed Hall of Fame Daphne Guinness. She sent us this pic together with a short note: "I was busy till the wee hours of the morning and almost didn't wake up and make it to the book signing! I barely had time to get ready but I knew I could rely on one of my favorite tops from And. I paired it with a cute necklace and I was ready to go!"

We love playing dress up! (Don't all girls do?) And on a recent photo shoot, we took the opportunity to let our inner Rachel Zoes shine!

We chose one item from Catalogue 63, Daley's racerback tank, and wore it any way we wanted, dressed up or dressed down. We came up with three completely different looks! See for yourselves. Amazing. This is definitely one versatile top.

Crystalle, stylish as always, sporting a Bonne Turban Headband and her own cute leapord print dress.  I couldn't believe that this was just a work outfit.  Now, I can't wait to see her all glammed up in one of our dressier pieces!

A few weeks ago, my friend Don and his girlfriend Marion came over from Shanghai. He's been based there for a few years and is a successful photographer. My family is pretty close to him and my mom asked me to pick out a gift from Catalogue 63 for Marion. I decided on Daley's extended sleeve t-shirt. She loved it! And we love it on her.  Who is the Twochic woman?   The twochic woman loves fashion and she appreciates the luxury of good fabric, well made clothes, and special design details. But most of all she loves the ease and comfort of her clothes. She adores clothes that spell ease but still echo elegance. 

How did you come up with this collection?   We know that there are women  like us who want easy chic pieces to add to their wardrobe.   So we focused on stylish pieces that are easy to wear, made well and feel good on.

Favorite meal: We recently enjoyed a fabulous alfresco dinner with some good friends.  We had gooey homemade onion soup, Large fresh grilled lobsters, and a mean steak.  It was heavenly.  Oh and there was ice cold champagne too!

Restaurant recommendation: Sugi is like comfort food. 

Recent purchase: We both bought A phillips air fryer. Crispy food with no oil!  Health for our families trumps all!

Hidden Talent:

 Tc - i play Video racing car games w my son. Who knew?? 

 Ana - I beat my kids in zombie farm!

We had our first Trunk Show last weekend at Metro Club. At first, we were all worried that we would have to cancel because the weather was simply not cooperating. We all woke up to strong winds and heavy rains. Luckily, the weather improved after a couple of hours. The rain could not keep shoppers away. :) Thank you to everyone who came! Manila, June 1, 2011 - Online retailer Catalogue 63 will host its first Catalogue 63 Trunk Show on June 25-26 from 11 am to 7 pm at Metropolitan Club, Estrella Street, Makati City.
