Last Independence Day, we caught Ridley Scott's latest film Prometheus. We've never seen the Alien movies and really had no expectations for this one, in spite all the hype. Plus, we're not big sci-fans. So we entered the movie excited and with open minds. The first thing we noticed is the amazing cinematography and graphics. For those things alone, we would recommend watching this movie! Preferably in 3D. The story (involving a deep sea space adventure set in the future to meet aliens who possibly may have been our creators) and characters (scientists, robots, aliens, creatures, frozen almost-dead people and the like) are not as well-developed as we'd like. For example, the goal of the mission's financier (he spent one trillion dollars) is not clearly explained or justified. On the other hand, the vast panoramas and imaginative creatures allow the viewers to forgive these lapses and just enjoy watching the movie as a whole.
Overall, the elements work together to make for a good, if not great, movie. Things to especially watch out for: Scott's version of what an alien is and the very visual self-surgery on the main character .
